Upgradation of Partnership Model for Digital Film Distribution Resulted in iQIYI, Inc. (IQ) Stock Gain in Premarket.

iQIYI, Inc. (IQ) is a global video streaming platform that provides pan-Asian entertainment to audiences worldwide by offering VIP subscriptions and ad-supported platforms. IQ stock swelled by 5.29% to be $4.78 during the regular trading session of April 1. Its price ascended further as of the writing in the premarket session of April 4, by 10.2%.

IQ: Recent Activity

On April 1, IQ announced the up-gradation of its partnership model for the digital distribution of films with immediate effect. Two distribution models are included in the new model i.e., Cloud Cinema Premiere and Subscription Premiere.

Cloud Cinema Premiere model will generate revenues from PVOD and SVOD streaming models. Meanwhile, the Subscription Premiere model will generate the revenue jointly with film producers and determined by audiences’ viewing time.

On March 29, IQ reported the availability of its channel on Roku devices in the US and Canada allowing the Roku audiences to access the company’s content. On March 22, IQ stated the Spanish-speaking regions will be first-time introduced to the original Chinese content or more specifically company’s high-quality content.

IQ: Financials and Outlook

IQ released its fiscal 2021 annual report on March 1, for the full year ended December 31, 2021.

  • The total revenues in fiscal 2021 were 5 billion versus RMB29.7 billion in 2020 recording a YoY surge of RMB0.8 billion.
  • Net loss per ordinary share (basic and diluted) in fiscal 2021 was RMB6.1 billion or RMB1.11 against RMB7 billion or RMB1.36 in FY20 and recorded a huge increase in net loss YoY.

The company’s financial outlook for Q1 2022 is a bit down than the previous fourth quarter of 2021 with revenue expectations of $1.14 billion versus -$0.13 EPS estimates.

Conclusion

IQ stock price rose by 5% in the year-to-date period and is still gaining momentum in Monday’s premarket as the company announced it had upgraded its collaboration model for online distribution of films.
